Business cases – Network monitoring
This example is based on an existing installation, but has been modified to protect the client’s confidential information.
This network of Ethernet switches forms the backbone of a real-time network used for automation within an industrial facility. The redundancy mechanism is managed by the MSTP protocol; as such, an ‘MSTP root’ is elected based on priority rules and potential outages.
The SCADA-LTS system records and reports any change in status across the entire network, making possible to trace the source of faults after an incident using the measurements (data points) stored in the SCADA system.
Furthermore, in the event of signal degradation, a measurement of the attenuation is displayed and recorded.
Changes can trigger alerts via SMS or e-mails.
