Read our article about this <a href=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/index.php\/free-software-freeware-freesoftware-public-domain-and-shareware\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"380\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Download Thunderbird<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Download Thunderbird from its official web site:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thunderbird.net\/download\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.thunderbird.net\/download\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your parameters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on your exact environment, the steps and layout may vary, but what you need to know are the following parameters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>E-mail server type: IMAP (not POP, neither POP3, &#8230;)<br>The &#8220;incoming&#8221; server, the IMAP server, is: <strong>imap.abilit.eu<\/strong><br>Security: SSL\/TLS with &#8220;normal password&#8221;, port 993<br><br>The &#8220;outgoing&#8221; server, the SMTP server, is <strong>smtp.abilit.eu<\/strong><br>Security: &#8220;StartTLS&#8221; with &#8220;normal password&#8221;, port 587<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First run<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once Thunderbird launched for the first time, it will propose you to configure you e-mail account &#8220;automatically&#8221;. Actually, it means it will <strong><em>guess<\/em><\/strong> the configuration. You can accept it, but it won&#8217;t be enough:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-266\" style=\"border-width:1px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-1.png 450w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-1-300x267.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can however click on &#8220;Done&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"452\" height=\"538\" src=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-267\" style=\"border-width:1px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-2.png 452w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-2-252x300.png 252w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 452px) 100vw, 452px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And then on &#8220;Finish&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are now ready to receive your first test message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"538\" height=\"264\" src=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-271\" style=\"border-width:1px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-6.png 538w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-6-300x147.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Required tuning<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>By right-clicking on your e-mail address (or other ways), you will access your account settings, as this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"865\" src=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-5-1024x865.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-270\" style=\"border-width:1px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-5-1024x865.png 1024w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-5-300x253.png 300w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-5-768x649.png 768w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-5.png 1087w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, you can setup your automatic e-mail signature, containing all your details, a text or even a graphical way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is now important to click on &#8220;Edit SMTP server&#8221;, as Thunderbird didn&#8217;t guessed some of the parameters correctly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check the &#8220;Connection Security&#8221; parameter, the port, &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Correct the User Name<\/strong>: As our SMTP server is shared with some Abil&#8217;I.T. customers and sub-domains, you must replace <br>&#8220;<em><strong>&lt;your login&gt;<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; with <br>&#8220;<strong><em>&lt;your login&gt;@abilit.eu<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Useful sub-folders&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to have access to all your e-mails, including the ones you sent, from an another device, it is required to have those e-mails stored in <strong>folders that are hosted on the server<\/strong>. You should then create those folders, under your IMAP account, using the &#8220;New folder&#8221; function:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"542\" height=\"458\" src=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-38.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-330\" style=\"border-width:1px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-38.png 542w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-38-300x254.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 542px) 100vw, 542px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is advised to create<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a &#8220;Sent&#8221; folder, for the sent e-mails<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a &#8220;Draft&#8221; folder, for the system to save your e-mails while you are writing it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a &#8220;Template&#8221; folder, to store your models<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an &#8220;Archives&#8221; folder, a &#8220;Junks&#8221; folder, &#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, you will configure your Thunderbird so that it will <strong>save those mails in those locations<\/strong> instead of some obscure local folder. As example, by selecting the <strong>server-based<\/strong> folder for Sent e-mails instead of the local one (default), you will make your sent e-mails available to other Thunderbird instances, as example <a href=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/index.php\/configure-your-e-mail-android\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"280\">Thunderbird on your Android Smartphone<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In &#8220;Copies and Folders&#8221;, select the folders located on the server instead of local ones:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"801\" src=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-39-1024x801.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-331\" style=\"border-width:1px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-39-1024x801.png 1024w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-39-300x235.png 300w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-39-768x601.png 768w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-39.png 1167w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First e-mail sending<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can now test to send your first e-mail !<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the &#8220;Send&#8221; button clicked, you should see:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"419\" height=\"140\" src=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-272\" style=\"border-width:1px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-7.png 419w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-7-300x100.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 419px) 100vw, 419px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the very first sent, your Thunderbird will ask you for the password:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"426\" height=\"197\" src=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-273\" style=\"border-width:1px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-8.png 426w, https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-8-300x139.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 426px) 100vw, 426px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget to tick the &#8220;remember&#8221; box, so that you won&#8217;t have to type it again (only on trusted, unshared computers&#8230;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"242\" height=\"143\" src=\"https:\/\/abilit.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-26.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-105\" style=\"border-width:1px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In case of problem, call our help-desk.
